Got one in NOLA a few months ago and I just sent a letter to the collections agency asking them to provide the contract I entered with the city regarding services or a legal judgement where I was found guilty of a crime and ordered to pay and I would gladly pay. That's the last I heard of it.

Never going to get one from a camera ticket.

The letter says that if you do not respond in 30 days that they will assume this debt is valid.

And dump trucks have signs that say they aren't responsible for damage. They are equally useless.

On what legitimate grounds do they have to assume that?

You don't have to pay it. The state of Louisiana has pretty much come out and said that the word is out about people not having to pay those types of fines, because there really aren't any consequences for not paying it.

This feels like a bullying tactic, to get me to pay

Ole Glory. The red, white and blue.

I got two for speeding on Canal Street... actually went into the department at City Hall in New Orleans to negotiate them down, considering the speed limit sign there down at the foot of Canal Street was lower than the usual limit and very cleverly placed at the time just for the purpose of snaring people. I agreed to pay one of the two, because I hadn't been notified of my violation before I got the second one.
The man in charge refused. I told the man "well, I tried to be fair. I'm not paying either of them." Never paid.

It's a free country. They can assume what they like.
YOU can assume they're trying to trick you.

It's a civil matter here in Houston I believe, not criminal.
ETA: *was* a civil matter. We no longer have red light cameras in Htown.

I was joking, I went 12 rounds thinking this a few weeks ago and was totally wrong.
I think they took the ones in Houston out of service, because people were locking their brakes up trying to avoid running a red light and causing more accidents at intersections. Check the white crosswalk lines next time you see a traffic camera, they're full of skid marks, it's hilarious.

They can't send to collections because you never entered an agreement with them for any services rendered so you don't owe them shite.

I got one, told them to stop sending the notifications because my father was driving my car that day, they asked for my father's information, told them no.
Was never bothered again.
They can only threaten to report it to a collection agent, they never will though.
This was in Baton Rouge. I'm not sure how it's handled elsewhere.

I got three in over the weekend last week, and I do not plan on paying one of them. Probably puts me around 40 or so unpaid camera tickets.
I just make sure to hide my plate when I park

Never pay those stupid things. Nothing they can do about it. Got one a year ago and have never paid it and don't plan on it.

Side question: If I get a camera speeding ticket in NOLA and it gets sent to collections, can I still get booted? Or is the city done with it once it's in collections? Thanks.
