Would any of you consider investing in an LNG export operation? Low oil/gas prices currently but in the long run, will these operations thrive as Europe and China will buy LNG from the US?
I think the immediate future of gas is exporting. Could be the long term future as well. There's a lot that's been written about it, and a lot of analysts think gas export companies do have a bright future. Eventually.
Having said this, I don't know enough about who the players are, or will end up being to take a stab at it. Natural gas exports are a fairly recent phenomena. I think there was some political pressure to stymie it if I recall correctly. Also, while oil storage is tracked in arrears, natural gas storage is pretty accurately tracked. We have a bunch of gas in storage. I suspect the opportunity you're looking at is that natural gas in the US is significantly cheaper than anywhere else in the world right now. Someplace in that equation has to be eventually lowered prices abroad due to our increased exports. If we can export LNG in a way that is economically viable.
Again, I know relatively little about this, so I wouldn't take anything I posted here as anything other than some stuff I read, and think I remembered correctly.
I'd start with resources such as this one below if I were you:

Thanks for the link. I have heard and read that China is slowly trying to phase out it's coal energy problems and that US gas could potentially be a long term viable solution. Could be a great thing for LA in the long run.
