Giants fan here but was looking for your thoughts on OJ Howard

If I was Sean Payton, I'd draft OJ Howard if the Saints have the chance. The guy seems like Jimmy Graham 2.0. 6'6 and freakishly athletic for a TE. Seems like he would fit well.
Thoughts?

Does he write books though?

Oh boy soft as pussy Jimmy and if you thought I couldn't stand that other guy man Jimmy was ×10. I hate his type.
Now Oj Howard is a stud, has good potential in the pass game and is already a solid blocker out of a run heavy offense. As much as I hate Jimmy you gotta pump your brakes there, not enough bias in me to not say that Graham wasn't a beast in 2011.
Oj Howard can be the next Oj Howard and pretty good also, the G men should pair him next to real #1 WR super star football player ODELL Beckham. If we could get him in the 3rd or 4th I'd go for it, but he will blow up at the combine and somehow sneak into the 2nd imo. I think he is a "safe" pick there if he isn't the stud you tought he'd be he will be a great blocker and at least decent in the receiving game. Think Benjamin Watson throughout his career, Ben has/had HOF talent. HOF career never materialized.
This game will have him unfairly being called the next Jimmy Graham which isn't fair to he or Jimmy. I don't see another Jimmy ( Before injuries and brutal hits made him soft) any time soon.

He is athletic. The Clemson Def left him wide open on 2 plays, and have not defended against the TE well at all during this game. I would not draft him based on this one game. The Saints have so many other needs. Ben Watson should be good for one more year, then they can try to get a TE unless one really good slips in this draft.
He will probably be drafted sooner than he should. Hopefully, SP does not try to reach for him and trade up to get him. SP needs to let the players fall to him and not reach for players. Reaching has not worked out too well.

If he's there in the 4th or 5th, then take him.
He was projected as 1 of the top TEs in the draft and a 2nd round pick. Based mainly off of his talent, potential, and athleticism because he obviously hasn't played in a TE friendly offense. But after tonight, I wouldn't be surprised if someone takes him in the late 1st. His combine will only improve his stock as well.

Yes. I corrected it. I don't want him in the first.

Pass.
He'll get mauled blocking.
More so than Graham's pussy arse.

Nor do I... Not for the Saints anyways. We have too many glaring needs we need to address and TE isn't really 1 of them...
But there are teams that need a TE and will take him in the late 1st.

I'd rather have Cardale Jones than OJ Howard.

He wont go in the 1st, he just doesnt have the production. If you examine the 1stRD TE's over the last 10 years(there arent many to begin with), they all had monster seasons receiving the ball coming out of college.
Howard just doesnt have the production to match, but his measurables should put him in the early to mid 2nd RD i would think. We'll see how he tests.

Lol he is miles ahead of Graham as a blocker as I type. Blocking boils down to mentality and technique as much as talent. I don't have the PFF sheet in front of me but id be willing to bet he had a positive run blocking grade. The program will spit guys out now if they don't have the right mentality. He's been at football boot camp for three years.
I don't see Howard ever becoming the receiving threat that Graham was in his prime. He's just not a box out and grab the rebound type of player, for that reason I'm not sure I'd draft him very high. I don't think a tight end is worth an early pick unless you expect 8-10 touchdowns a year out of him, and I don't see that from Howard. Great measurables and a well rounded player, just not a box out and high point type that his measurables indicate.

Howard's lack of production throughout his career is a huge red flag. If you draft him in the 2nd round you are truly buying high on him as well because of the NC bump.
I agree that he has legit upside and Alabama underutilized him to some degree but I don't think i'd want to use anything higher than a 3rd round pick on him.
