Personal prefernce, but don't use any stain at all on cypress.
2 coats of Waterlox Marine sealer and 2-4 coats of Waterlox Marine finish (gloss) and call it a day.
Edit: it's a tung oil based product.
Will take a week to do it properly, i.e. cure between coats.
