Geez I did not realize so much land was private down there.

I've never sat down and tried to figure it out but something like 1/10th of tidal marsh is publicly accessible. The rest is either private or can not be accessed. Fouchon beach is a good example of public property with access cut off by adjoining land owners.

If you used Terrebonne as an example, there is about 600k acres of marsh. Give or take a few thousand. Of that total, roughly 15 thousand of it is public land.

The Wisner WMA in Leeville no longer exists so some of that area may be private now as well?

Also have never done the math, but it's overwhelming when it hits you, just how much of "our" tidal waters are actually under private ownership. I'm not sure about the 1/10 you claim, you may be correct, but its WAY more than 50%. It really just comes down to if the owner enforces his right to run you off or not. It's truely that simple.
