Meh. It would have been a no-brainer if she completed the slam. Djokovic had a better year. If she had the same year and passed Graf, then I get it.

Its definitely a US centric award. I think the runner up was American Pharaoh.

American Pharaoh accomplished something that hasn't been done in 4 decades. It was the most important sports accomplishment this year for sure.

On the other hand, American Pharaoh is a horse. It's just a horse without the jockey. So I don't know if it could qualify for sportsperson of the year.

Therefore it should probably go to Serena before Curry, Brady, Speith, etc.

Didn't she quit on this year after losing the Open?

Not sure about that but she did quit the 5K race she was hosting. She took a cab to the finish line.

Chrissy Evert won it in 1976 and she won Wimbledon and the US Open but no other major.

Billie Jean King won it in 1972 with 3 majors.

So Serena winning it with 3 majors is perfectly on par with the past.

Plus, if a jockey and a female golfer who have won this SI honor - it shows it doesn't really mean much.

I have no problem with Serena winning it, but if I did have a problem it's that Novak Djokovic should have won it.

That pic has to be shopped... No way her legs are that thin... If you watch her in the U.S.Open he had a lot of cottage cheese on those thighs......

You are really going to argue semantics on a most subjective award?

People have different opinions about what an athlete is and Sportsman of the year and all that it takes to accomplish that.

Congrats on being King of all things sports and dictator of what you believe is some sort of Gospel.

Nothing worse than an areshole on the internet who believes what they believe as the absolute truth.

A jockey should not be winning the Sportsman of the Year given all the great athletes. I have great respect for what they do, but they are sitting and jostling on a horse and using tactics but I have a greater respect for the actual winner - the horse.

So congrats on being the crown prince of sports opinions - if someone disagrees with you - they are an idiot. Nothing worse on the internet, than pointing finger idiot guy who hates other opinions. Why are you even on the Internet if you can't listen to anything else but your own mouth breathing stink breath?

She has done the 4 straight slam over 2 years thing twice, 12 years apart. She hasn't cussed out and Asian linesmen for a few years. She probably deserves one and she probably won't win 3 in a year again so this is the year.

I am not a fan but hardly anybody else has that 12 year span going for them
