Question for bicyclists.

Earlier today I passed 2 bicyclists on 16 near Montpelier. There is a big paved shoulder for them to ride on. Why in the hell do they still have to be out in the middle of the right lane?

What's on the shoulder? LP probably full of glass

It's a good way to get run over.

I always take a shoulder if there is one. When I ride a bike. Which I don't ever do.

I ride on the shoulder or sidewalk if possible and if I ride in the street I have a mirror to see behind and usually get out if the way if possible. Not sure y they ride in the road when they don't have to. If hit, the cyclist loses that battle 100 percent of the time

4 downvotes simply for asking why can't they ride on the shoulder. Ridiculous.

I honestly don't get why bikers get to ride in the road. It's just such a risky move. A bike and a car just don't belong together. In a crash, the biker is seriously injured and likely killed when the car barely gets a scratch.

A friend of mine for a ticket in Livingston Parish for riding his bike on the sidewalk.

This thread should go well

Serious answer: because the shoulder is usually full of debris and is unsafe to be ridden upon.
By law, cyclists are to ride in the street.
I used to be a competitive cyclist, but I use common sense when I ride. I don't do busy streets. But if I'm out in the sticks, yeah, I'm using the road. Not the shoulder, which isn't meant for riding.

Oh. So I guess I stopped and screamed obscenities at them for no reason.
