The distraction associated with this is a much greater issue than Miles remaining our coach. When Miles' tenure comes to an end, we can be successful transitioning with thoughtful contingency and succession planning - a risk any business faces when replacing a key figure. Top of priority in that transition, of course, is finding the right hire (and maybe we did, but it did not happen for reasons already discussed).

Unfortunately, we have all been witnesses to poor succession planning and now we have this powerful distraction. I mean, this is text book what not to do.

The point of this post? Don't make the distraction worse. If you boo Miles, a Player, or the Leadership at our next home game, you're a part of the distraction. If you want real change, do it productively through other means.

How are a bunch of fans complaining a valid distraction? Because there is merit in how impactful your vocal support of the team can be. It's a social world. You know the team has felt this distraction for far too long. This doesn't begin or end on TD, but the Rant is a part of the social landscape. So let's be better here, on campus, in the media, in the stadium, etc.

Bottom line, I will be cheering like hell next season. We no doubt have special players that deserve our support, and that to me is more important than being a distraction for them.

This is a distraction.

This is a fire in a barrel.

Any questions?

So your philosophy regarding the current state of affairs with our football program is akin to what Bobby Knight got so much flack for saying back in the day:

''I think that if rape is inevitable, relax and enjoy it.''

Wow, not at all... First, I am for making a change -- but it has to be done the right way.

My commentary is more forward looking, and that this team does not need all this noise, which to me is a distraction that can impact performance. Perhaps I'm giving this distraction more merit than it deserves. But I am firm in my belief of supporting the players on this team. And part of that support includes minimizing distraction.

You do want you want to do, and I'll do what I want to do. If you can't handle distractions, you need to stay away from big boy football.
