Herman beat Bama? So you think Meyer had nothing to do with that huh? Smart doesn't get all credit because of Saban. So why should Herman get so much credit when Meyer has had successful offenses everywhere he's been?

Unless he does, Texas big money may have things worked out

Anyone and everyone in the know around him said he's waiting out Charlie strong and the Texas gig. Why not make 3 million next year with 20 starters back off a 12-1 team, then when strong gets canned slide over? He's coached all over Texas and got his masters at UT and was a grad assistant. Perfect fit
Lsu searching for a coach next year will also still be a plus for him too.
He can play Texas vs lsu until lsu bows out at 5 million per year. He settles on Texas at 6.5.

osu offense was a lot worse this year with the same players. obviously not knocking meyer, but herman has been lights out at all of his stops and smart has pretty much been with saban the whole time. all of his time with a coordinator has been with saban.

And Les Miles could turn things around and limp into the playoffs next year, obliging us to keep him until 2019.
That may be more realistic than Strong righting the ship. Neither are very realistic, fwiw.

i'm just saying if charlie wins 8 games he probably stays. hell, they're a few fluke plays from winning 7 this year and have pretty much everyone coming back. i'm not saying texas is gonna be good next year, but it's not like he has to win the conference or anything.
if miles gets blown out by several teams again next year i think he's gone. i hope he just retires anyway.

With schools like Houston willing to pay 3 million a year, a coach would be out of his mind for taking a SEC job. SEC jobs are for the elite of the elite. If not elite, you're gone after 4 years and you're a retread.
Herman could be the Texas coach in a year. He's not going to go to a place like South Carolina.

He's making about $3 million at Houston where the expectations are low and the conference competition is weak. Yes, it is tough to recruit the absolute top talent to Houston, but Texas is a talent-rich state and he could set his mind on changing that.
If I were him, and I liked Houston, I would definitely stay. Maybe hang on and replace Sumlin at some point, if coaching in the SEC is his ultimate goal.

He's smarter than most. He can dominate at Houston and have a life and learn the trade. He's got a 5 star recruit committed at Houston.
Lets see what would u do?
Leave Houston for 1 more million a year possibly 2 and be expected to beat the Alabama's, Clemson's, or the Ohio States of the world day 1. If u fail which almost everyone has before and you end up back at a houston type of program and just be another good mid-major coach.
Or wait on Texas to give u the most $ in the profession and have very achievable expectations. And walk into the all of fame.
