It was a much older Tacoma than the vehicles you're looking at 
I loved it, but it would never work for me. I've driven newer mid sizes and they're just too cramped for me personally. I also don't think the 5.5 ft beds on full size crew cabs is big enough, so mid size trucks really lack the functionality I desire when I own a truck.

I agree. When I was shopping for the Colorado, I was shocked to see a 5' bed on most crew cabs. I got the 6' and am glad I did.
