All Things Considered, Where Does LSU Rank As A Program...

In the SEC right now (coaching, talent, facilities, recruiting, intangibles, potential, etc.)?
(1) Bama
(2) Ole Miss
(3) LSU?
(4) UF
(5) UTenn
(6) Arky/Auburn
The Rest...
As bad as things seem to be, I still feel as though we are a Top 3 SEC Program (not team per se).

i'll buy that. we're probably top 3. but the issue is we stay at 3. #1 never changes, #'s 2, 4, 5, and 6 are always rotating. Some good years, some not as good, sometimes they knock off #1. But us, we just stay steady. Beat a couple, lose a couple, happy to be here.

What is troubling to me, in addition to what you mention is that OM seems to be replacing us as Bama's only legit challenger. They have another great class lining up with another great QB.
Kelly was ours for the taking this year and Cam/Les said no thanks.
That said, all of the nominal ingredients are in place to win (aside from coaching).

We are number 2. Only Bama is ahead. Ole Miss had a great recruiting class that they cashed in on.

ebb and flow, brah... ole miss for a few years, state last year, auburn lines it up every now and then, someone has to rep the east. they'll go up and down. And we'll stay steady and have no drastic dips and keep that #3 spot locked down tight. Always just missing it, always just a few plays away, always next year.

Ole Miss has won two straight versus Bama. They are the only sec team to beat them in the last two years. They have also won two of last three versus LSU. They have a great class coming in with the best QB in the nation lined up. They have surpassed LSU by any measure.

#2 in terms of??? not record. And that's what kind of matters...

You have described a small percentage of college football programs , most are below mediocre , we are an above average program and I would like to see changes and become an elite powerhouse but it's not easy to do and not in my controll , but I'm a tiger fan win lose or draw I will support my program ......

I guess I'm not ready to accept that.

We do not have an elite staff. We do not have an elite QB. We will not be elite until one or more of those things change.

I certainly don't like it.

Above average programs get the doors blasted off of them when they face real competition in 3 straight games in November when there was actually something left to play for? A year after doing basically the same thing.
But hey, you're happy being just above average and you don't want to risk falling into the other group. So what, we don't beat bama, nobody does, right? It's not like we have the talent. We don't ever have great recruiting classes. We never put guys into the league. let's just be happy with or participation trophy...
Welcome to mediocrity; Population: LSU

This board is so myopic. Ole Miss has a couple of decent years and now they're up to the top behind Bama?
Teams that haven't been to the SECCG:
West:
Texas A&M
Ole Miss
East:
Kentucky
Vandy

Nope
It is apparent that there is a coaches arms race
It is also apparent that LSU will not participate in the race
LSU is being left behind

I work with a Texas fan, a USC fan, a Notre Dame fan, and a bandwagon Bama fan.
We had this discussion the other day, but we were talking nationally. All of us had our disagreements on who was the top program. I felt it was Texas, USC, then Ohio St. I bases this on location, money, media love. I had LSU as #4. All the others had LSU around 4-8.
But all of us agreed that LSU would be the easiest place for a great coach to be successful.
