I moved here for the same reason you did. And every city you just named has a higher cost of living. Im from Nola... love the food, was raised there, amazing culture, but you have to choose Houston to live over Nola. There is a reason why people are not MOVING to Nola.. they VISIT for Mardi Gras, Essence, concerts, etc., but they not MOVING there. Why? Because the system there sucks. 30,000 people move to Houston every 2 months; which is why the population is so high. It is a growing city what lots of money and potential. Nola has been Nola for years and it hasnt changed for the better in decades.

Houston is very affordable, but it is affordable because it has no geographical limitations. One of my big dislikes for it is that it is so spread out.
