I think many coaches look at the SEC at too risky a career move for relatively less benefit. While you could make arguments that both were warranted, coaches across the country just saw UGA and (almost) LSU run off coaches that by most reasonable standards have been very successful. In many places 10-2, 9-3 gets you acclaim from the fanbase and school. In the SEC it's grounds for termination.

Think about the pressure it puts on coaches. Whoever UGA hires will be EXPECTED to win AT LEAST 10 games a year in the toughest conf. in America. The same would have been true had LSU made a change. USCe wouldn't have quite as high of expectations, but they also won't tolerate many 8 win seasons. The bar is extremely high in the SEC with the reality being that not every one of the 14 teams can have 9 to 10 win seasons every year.

It used to be that you had to go to schools in the SEC to get the huge salaries. Now that's not the case. Why leave Houston, TCU, Baylor, etc. making $3 million per year to go to the SEC where your job security can be seriously questioned after year one. The disparity in salaries is really not that great. I think the SEC has kind of become a victim of its own success
