Animals are for our convenience and enjoyment. Their purpose is no longer served if they aren't enjoyable or convenient anymore.
However, I would NEVER just leave an animal to starve. That's inhumane af!!! Why do that when you can just put it done or drop it off in a trailer park.

I question people I give pets for adoption what they would do if this very situation happened. They assure me that it's a forever home no matter what then I feel more comfortable. I know people can lie, but I like to check on people before I give pets for adoption.
You are responsible for that pet IMO. I know times can be hard and people have to do what is most important for them, but I would keep looking until I found a place that will accept pets if it was me.
Still better than people who bring them to the pound. Oh how I hate kill shelters. Especially if it's an animal that can survive just fine on its own (not a dog)
But yeah people always want to adopt puppies or kittens.. they need to realize that these babies turn into adults.. If I was looking for a pet, I would probably go get a rescue animal and would not care if they were a baby. It's a companion.

My own mother has this wonderful standard poodle.. The sweetest dog ever, never ever even barks.. So well behaved.. and she went through a rough time and had to move unexpectedly and could not have pets where she was. She wound up giving the dog to a client she met from work.. My mom later regretted it and wanted to get her back.. She had to track down the girl she gave her to and beg for her back.. but the girl she gave it to had already given the dog away to someone else.. She had a change of mind and gave it to her mother.. Well, her mother had the dog outside on a chain just all rugged and not well taken care of.. They agreed to let my mom have her dog back.. and my mom wound up moving somewhere else..
If I had known about this all along, I would have taken our family dog! Geez.
but it just goes to show you, some people think it's a good idea, but they aren't thinking it through in terms of responsibilities.

Years ago I had some friends that had this dog always wandering around their place. Their neighbors didn't take care of it or pay it attention. When my friends moved out of state the dog moved with them if you know what I mean.
They would anonymously send post cards to the old owners from the dog when they went on vacations.

I'm usually good for 2-3 years before I get tired of them

What's worse is those he get rid of the dog as it gets older after owning them 10 years.

These people need to start getting called out. Milked the dog for attention, especially during its puppy phase. Man up and own up to your commitments, people.
have you ever personally called anyone out for it? doubtful

I hate people that do that. A guy in my office got a pure-bred dog that way. Girl and BF buy this purebred terrier. She gives the dog to her mom (who also doesn't want the dog) when they move. The dog gets out and ends up in my coworker's yard. When he returns the dog, the mom tells him she was about to take it to the pound when it got out. So he took the dog.

I have found this in more than one repo house. Most recent was a few dead cats the people locked in the house when they lost it.
No excuse for that.
I saw a repo house once where the owners couldn't take their cat. But at least they left the garage open enough for it to get in and out, and they left an automatic feeder and came by to change the water periodically until the house went on the market. The cleaning lady adopted the cat.

A guy I know couldn't house train his dog properly so made his kids kiss it goodbye and he drove to city park NOLA and left it there. Got in the car and drove off. What a piece of shite.
