I was speaking more towards the narrative that gets pushed here every single year. Fans clamor for that next highly rated QB recruit and shite on the current QB until said recruit becomes the QB and is shite on. The cycle goes on and on.

Franks is an important prospect but rarely do you get QBs out of high school that can immediately compete at a high level. I agree they need time to develop. Development is the issue. Mettenberger sat his first year, struggled his RS junior year and blossomed his senior year.

Mettenberger did not have to play early and it still took over two years to get him in a position to be successful.

Your point speaks more to allowing a quarterback time develop without being thrust into the limelight then it does the talent and ability of Franks. The issue I have is that these same fans that are bashing Harris and saying they can't wait until Franks arrives were the ones bashing Jennings and saying they can't wait until Harris starts.
Perhaps they will stop bashing QBs when LSU starts putting more developed/experienced/"years in the system" QBs on the field.

The thing is, it's coming . . . if we can keep Franks.

Saban did not sign a QB for the February 2004 signing day, and when he left, he did not have a QB committed for the February 2005 signing day. Miles scrambled to sign Ryan Perrilloux. When Perrilloux flamed out, LSU had a succession of QBs rushed into play. Other than Mett, every QB recruited by Miles has started at the beginning of, or before, their second year:
Lee [RSFr]
Jefferson [Fr]
Jennings [So]
Harris [Fr]

If I was the Emperor of LSU, no QB would start until their third year. The development/experience/"years in the system" almost always makes a HUGE difference.
