these are not as cost effective as one might believe.
now Mcdonalds is going to have to hire several engineers to ensure the machines work daily
plus, you still need a "regular" employee monitoring the functionality
they are in Europe for customer convenience, not to save McDonalds money

This. I saw them in the one McDonalds in downtown Barcelona when I was there 3 years ago, and it seemed there were just as many workers behind the counter. The machines mainly reduced the length of the lines.
