Giving to the homeless: Do you?

So THIS article from the NY Post got me thinking about this. This guy nets $200 per hour in NYC and isn't even actually homeless.
One my way home from work there has been a concentration of homeless guys and women at the stoplight. I typically have to wait for about 4-5 light cycles before I'm able to go through and I watch how many times people give to them. On average, it's about 1-2 givers per cycle so by the time I get to him, about 8-10 total people have given.
Do you give to the homeless? If not, what is your take on it?

I ask them if they want food instead, if they say no then I tell them tough luck. Not buying some baw's next meth meal.

Supposedly in the Nashville area there is a homeless business ring. I've actually seen them change shifts before where a Cadillac pulled up and dropped off one while the other got into the car. After that, I never have given anymore. I just can't tell the difference. Plus, you could give the money in other ways where they would spend the money much more responsibly.

well, I don't give to professional beggars like that guy...
a homeless guy has a certain look, and odor
I'll never forget, standing in line at mc donalds for breakfast behind a lady who had been sleeping in leaves...hair was all matted...she was homeless
so yeah

This thread again. Yes I always give them around $20 so they can get some food or something.

No. Too many, especially around here, are frauds

It's certainly a turn off when you read stories like this. My brother cleaned out his fridge recently and gave them several leftovers - most of which were probably bad

During winter, I'll give them a bag full of clothes that were headed to Goodwill.

No, I donate $20/month to a local homeless shelter. They can go there if they want some assistance.

Nope.
Here in Houston it is a job in itself. Spoke to a couple of them in ERs. Days goal was to get enough cash for A. Drug or alcohol. B. A shitty hotel room. C. Food. D. Hooker.

You ever get those bums that turn mental on you? "Sorry, I don't got any money."
"MOTHERfrickER!" "Wo wo, where's my checkbook? Hold on. Is that Mr. Bum? How do I make it out? Is that Capital Vagrant? I didn't know you were psycho, definitely wasn't your personality that put you on the street was it?"

I never do. Even if they are truly homeless I don't want to enable their behavior. There's ways out and it's not that hard to figure out. May tax dollars go towards those causes.
I ask them if they have an ID and if they'd like me to take them to the courthouse to get qualified for everything. They always just walk off.

Let them die off, its the only way we get this gene pool back under control. Survival of the fittest
