I have been looking at whole slabs. The Quartz IS Caesarstone(stained terribly) and was told you could slice into it. I agree, granite is ho-hum, except for the veined ones. Stainless smears, and concrete chips. Found out Onyx is #1 and Quartzite is #2 in durability. I'll check into Quartzite. Corian and formica stain.Don't know anything about soapstone except it has to be sealed twice a year.

I've had mine for ten years and no one's managed to chip it yet. I can't imagine a kitchen getting more use or abuse (clumsy wife who loves to cook)...so in not really sure where this information comes from. I think you'd play hell chipping it on purpose.
