No doubt it has real consequences, just doesn't surprise me that all these companies stretch the truth.

This is the second company to be caught in as many years. Slaps on the hands are all they are really getting right now.

Ford had an issue with overstating HP awhile back and in that case, it was more of a marketing penalty than anything else.

EPA deals, I thought, had pretty significant penalties. Obviously, there'll be a marketing penalty also.

As an aside, I've generally found stated MPG to be pretty accurate, if not a little on the conservative side. This has been especially true from 2000 on.
