The story of him calling Mauck and Clayton in immediately after the 2004 Sugar Bowl is emblematic of his personality and work ethic.

What story?

I liked his fire and was happy to have him when he was here, but recognized him as someone who would never be satisfied.

After the previous few coaches, it was refreshing to see someone who (1) seemed to be personally invested in the results and (2) was smart enough to give some insight into what went right and wrong. That's probably why my impression of his personality was not as negative as now.

Confetti was still streaming down - fans were partying in the Superdome - one or both players was still in cleats and pads, and he calls them into an anteroom and says, "I have to have an answer - are you coming back next year or not?"

Prick couldn't enjoy the biggest game and win of his miserable life... Plus ruins it for the kids who ran through walls for him.

He also just stepped over one of his Dolphin players - who could have been dead for all he knew. Terrible person, but man - he can coach a football team.

He called them both in immediately after the trophy presentation in the Dome and told them he needed to know then and there if they were coming back for their senior season. Had to plan and such.
