Couple of things to consider.
17 RZ attempts is really good.
14 TD's in those 17 attempts is not good. Against better teams holding them to FG's rather than TD's will be key.
LSU's D has had pluses and minuses this year. Pressure on
QB had been pretty good. Getting off the field on 3rd down has been pretty good. The coverage busts in the passing game have been way too frequent.
Shore up the busts, stiffen up in RZ and force more FG's this D has chance to be very very good.

I agree. You would think a shorter field would benefit our pass defense, but that hasn't been the case. If LSU continues to be efficient on offense and put up points, the defense's step back will not be a factor.
The thing is LSU's numbers on offense finally mean that the defense doesn't have to be in the uppermost echelon. LSU having a top 20 defense with this offense is plenty enough for most games. Let's hope all phases play their best in the biggest games.

This team has been a work in progress from game one. Our top 3 OGs are freshmen but they are coming...I see progress. The receivers are more consistent in the Fla. game. The true freshman TE from Jesuit is maturing each game. With Mills now having a full game back at safety I expect to see less busted coverages...and they have 2 weeks to get their act together. BH seems to have arrived. Ever the 2 back-up DTs are showing more toughness and technique. Don't worry;be happy!
