different Toshiba laptop?
Motherboard crashed on an previous Toshiba laptop due to a power surge, but the HD was left unaffected. Both HDs are SATA drives and the same physical size.
What is stopping me from taking the old HD and putting it into the new laptop so I can pull some data off of it? Something needs changing in the bios?
Media failure on first try.

Hardware differences may cause unbootable actions. Best bet is to use a USB adapter and connect it, or slave it into a desktop.

proabably needs BIOS changes and if the two laptops are different models you are wasting your time and making it far too much work.
The two suggestions here are the best. If you have a desktop with SATA on it then just pop it in there and get what you need. If not, go get a USB HDD reader and get it off that way.

Had the same issue with a Lenova laptop. Can't simply swap between laptops like you can desktops.
Like PPs have said, get what you need off it because you will have to reformat it to work in the new laptop.

It just depends how similar the chipsets are. If the machines are years apart, you're not gonna have a good time.

They are.
I may just find an old-assed laptop that matches the broken one so I can get some shite off of it. I've already connected via USB, but there are several things that I need that I cannot just pull off it this way.
