I was told that if you should leave your onboard charger plugged in always when you are not on the water to prolong battery life. Is this true?

I had 3 exides in my xpress that lasted 3 and half years and I didn't leave them plugged in like I should have. I replaced them with everstart wally world and they worked great.
on my new boat I have 4 batteries from 2012 and they are just fine. I have an onboard I leave plugged in and I also have a perko switch that kills all the power to the boat from all 4 batteries.
if I had to replace them and I will eventually ill go with 4 evertstarts from wally world. they will take back anything. and they aren't bad priced batteries. exides aren't bad either from academy.

Yes. As a lead acid battery live longest if it remains charged. As the battery charge level lowers the cells begin to sulfate. Prolonged time at low charge levels and sulfation gets to a level that the battery will no longer charge. Also charging them slowly and keeping the heat down as they charge will also help with the life of the cells. Buy a float charger and keep them plugged in when you aren't using them for maximum life.
