What's the real story behind Clifton Garrett?

He just committed to UAB after playing a season at Arizona Western College. Knowing that LSU will be very thin at LB next year, why wouldn't he come back here? He should have 3 more years' eligibility.

Was there a discipline issue? Is he just not eligible to come back (one and done)? I thought the climate was the problem, but Birmingham has pretty much the same hot, humid climate as BR.

I really don't know. Appreciate any insight.

He wasn't that good. He was slow and had weight issues.

Remember when some of the AA game practice highlights came out and he looked terrible and everyone freaked out? Well...turns out those people were right.

He didnt have an offer to come back here. He was vastly overrated, that's why he just ended up at a team that wont exist until 2017.

There is no real story. If he were as good as projected, he would have committed to somewhere better than UAB. There's a reason why he didn't go an visit schools like A&M, Ole Miss, Vanderbilt, Kentucky, and so on. He wouldn't have gotten an offer.

Arizona Western College is in Yuma, AZ. The hottest town in Arizona! If he can play in that heat, then he can play anywhere.......

The climate/humidity issue should be much different in Birmingham than it was in Baton Rouge.

That's the story. We don't need UAB caliber LBs

I saw him play in high school and he was vastly overrated and I even wrote about it on the recruiting board, which they asked me to remove because it was about a month prior to signing day. I shouldn't have done that but I was VERY underwhelmed. Chavis was actually at the game I was at.

I wrote that day, in part, "What surprised me was I expect a guy like that to really pop out at me during warmups and while I obviously pretty quickly figured out which kid he was it wasn't immediate. If I was at the game and looking for an LSU caliber kid I would have never recommended him. However, I have seen him on film make some WOW plays."

Also, I'm not trying to brag on my personnel abilities as I thought Dwayne Schintzius was going to be a good NBA player. I just saw this one coming a mile away.

He left bc he didn't fit the bill, not bc he didn't like the scheme, coaches or team. He just wasn't as good as anticipated and that's okay. It happens.

I think he just got down here and enjoyed to much of the night life.

I loved his high school tape BTW. A very sure tackler with some of the best lateral speed around for an LB. He could also lay a lick. I wish he would have did all he could to play here.
