because the lakers get ratings
if nobody watched then they wouldn't be on tv
it isn't that hard to understand

That's a fricking copout.

Are the Lakers on TV all the time because they get high ratings, or do they get high ratings because they're on TV all the time? The audience has been conditioned for three decades to believe that the Lakers are special and belong on TV all the time because LOOK AT JACK NICHOLSON! IT'S SHOWTIME! Showtime is done and Jack is old and caricature of his former self. It's time to give someone else a chance to be on television 3 times a week. They're the 5th best professional sports team in Los Angeles, and that's just because they don't have an NFL team right now.

The issue you run in to is that they play a lot of the later West Coast games, where the league only has a few games to pick between in that given time slot. So it would make sense to side with the most popular team in the sport.

It isn't like there are a ton of good teams on the coast. It is basically the Warriors and Clippers. No one will really want to tune in to watch the bad Blazers or bad Kings this year.

It is the main reason the Knicks got way more games flexed out of last year.
