Protein smoothie for breakfast...

Awhile back I bought some protein powder from SAMs. Been making a fruit smoothie for breakfast every morning for the past few months. Trying to be a little healthier and shed a few lbs by eating a little less and better.
Problem is I gained weight. Can the protein shake act as a weight gainer if I don't do hard core exercise?
Think the shite I got was intended for athletes and I'm definitely not an athlete anymore.

If you're working out you can gain pounds by gaining muscle while losing fat.
If you aren't working out get rid of protein
If you aren't working out get rid of protein

Why get rid of protein when you can just cut carbs throughout the day?

What type of protein? How many carbs in he protein? Are you using the shake as a meal replacement or just an addition?

Why would you add protein if you aren't working out? That's a good bit of additional calories.

You need to be aware of the nutritional values of the shite you are taking. If you are not working out, then why would you take a protein powder? All fruits aren't great either. If you are using bananas, leave them out - high sugar content. Go to berries and apples.
You could get more than adequate protein from two egg whites, and muscle milk LIGHT without all the calories and sugar.
