None of JKs many many shortcomings mean that, while he is manager, he can't or shouldn't raise hell when one of his players undermines his authority or whatever you want to call it when a player unilaterally decides to remove himself from a game when he could continue.

I don't think you can look at this one situation and say a manager does t have a right and obligation to respond to what he claims Fabian did. If it would be the right move for a manager you like, it's the right move here too.
Fabian being a good player doesn't mean he can just do whatever he wants. Well, he can, but that doesn't make it right.

That's all fine and dandy until Gladbach released a statement that Fabian Johnson is being treated for a thigh injury.

Calling out a player in that fashion is wrong for any manager, just as it is wrong here. It should always be handled internally.

The fact that Monchengladbach reports that Fab is now injured doesn't bode well for Klinsmann's tale of events either.
