i disagree. fear implies that the cop is going to bust out my brake light, throw a gun on the ground and handcuff me when he pulls me over.

respect implies i'm getting pulled over and before i get on my high horse and assume i dindu nuffin, maybe i'll let the cop tell me what i did and if its wrong, fight it in court.

No, fear is having to have a discussion on this board about how we understand it's smarter to go out of one's way to be polite and as even keeled as possible when dealing with a LEO because you never know what they may do. You've said as much yourself, and I agree.

The fact that we all understand that is the problem.

I should not be worried as an American citizen that a trained police officer having a "bad day" is gonna yank me from my vehicle and wail on me because I am ALSO having a bad day and I dare to question him doing his job.

But it's true...I'm 45 and have had very few interactions with LEO's. Most of them were fine, some were shitty and NONE of them were escalated by me. But each and EVERY time, I've gone out of my way to treat them as you would a 2 year old on the verge of having a break down in a grocery store...if that 2 year old could also shoot on you in the face if you posed some nebulous threat. That's no way to have to live in a free society.
