can somebody explain how this is a scandal?
this is nothing like insider trading. this would be like if a guy working in finance at a big firm had access to a great algorithm of the firm and used that to invest on his own, finding great success.

I think people are just hoping for the downfall of both sites so they're grasping at straws.

It's a pretty big advantage. Let's say three to four guys u know are owned around 40%. The pros have optimal lineups where they can lock players. They can now take those three or four and pair them with the optimal players for each lineup. These guys are playing a ton of entries. Over a hundred. He can also take the data of the most owned and not use them to get very different teams then all others. It's a huge advantage either way he did it.

I don't think an analogy to inside trading fits, but - think of it this way: the fellow from the one outfit is not winning the money from the other outfit; he's winning the money paid by all the losers who did not have "inside" or "better" information. It's not so much of a scam against the rival as it is taking advantage of the rival's paying customers.
I'd be willing to bet that the big "winners" shown ad nauseam in television commercials are very closely affiliated with the owners of the company they won from. I think it's all a scam and I suspect that both companies are cashing in as quickly as they can before they get shut down by the government as illegal gambling.
