quote:Greinke was the better pitcher this year, from the start of the year till the end of the year he was the better pitcher. It isn't lazy, he proved that this year he was better. Now has he been better, no and Kershaw had another great year but Greinke had a better year.
Saying Greinke is better than Kershaw because he posted a lower ERA for one year is lazy

Saying Greinke is better than Kershaw because he posted a lower ERA for one year is lazy. Are Macro Estrada and Wei Yei Chen better than Chris Sale?
Marco Estrada has been fantastic despite wildly exceeding his xFIP and many other advanced metrics. He throws pretty soft and relies on getting a ton of pop-ups, which seems crazy in Toronto, but his command is so on point.
Obviously, you want to maximize strikeouts, minimize walks, and maximize weak contact, but some soft tossing guys with pinpoint command can work. Things can vary so much season to season, so I think it is totally fair to say that Estrada is having a great year.
Chris Young is the most extreme example of a true sabermetric outlier. He literally breaks the scales by constantly pitching up in the zone.
Will Marco Estrada repeat in 2015? Almost assuredly not, but it is a joy watching him frustrate batters right now.
