Why does everyone keep calling Syria a quagmire? There's no reason for it to be. It's almost completely Sunni so it's not like Iraq where you had three dominant religions in one country under one governemnt. Syria is an open desert so there isn't places to hide like Afghanistan or Vietnam.
Some of you people just like using buzzwords. Some explain to me why Syria will be a quagmire for the Russians. They have the backing of the government, they are stronger than ISIS or the rebels. They are willing to accept collateral damage to kill their enemies. The only way Syria becomes a quagmire for Russia is if we continue to arm and supply the "moderate" rebels fighting the Assad regime.
