Crazy to think we basically only have 4 first rounders and two 3rd rounder from 4 drafts prior to this last year's still on this team.
The ridiculous thing is that most of the Saints big players were draft gems:
Colston - 7th
Strief - 7th
Evans - 4th
Nicks - 5th
Graham - 3rd
Bushrod - 4th
Morestead - 5th
Stills - 5th
It's crazy when you think of how many late picks were key players for this team.
Our Best OL were 4th and 5th rounders. Best WR's were a 5th and 7th rounder (so far).
Then, everything went to hell.
I think the issue is the Saints always took players that were diamonds in the rough, but our offensive coaching staff that developed them is gone:
Curtis Johnson (2006-2011) - WR's went to hell once he left
Aaron Kromer (2008-2012) - OL, especially the interior has gone to hell since he left.
That is what has killed our offensive development. Defensive coaching has always been horrid, largely because our position coaches have been crap, thus our defensive draft picks peak early and then just regress as they get more coaching. Whenever the players keep changing but the results don't, it's about coaching or lack thereof.

Hicks will probably go on to be a very good player for the Patriots. He was one of the few players we have on defense who is physically above average for his position. He had above average size, strength, and good speed for his size. We needed more DL's like him, not less. Was playing below his potential but still better than a lot of what we got on this team.
