First and foremost, he's not sitting out. Players want to play. Also, it's not the NCAA that's keeping him from going pro, it's the NFL. So Florio can take his snide shot at college fans and look in an f'n mirror.
However, I do wish Fournette could profit off of the obscene amounts of money that are being made off of him right now. We don't need to have schools paying players, but Fournette should be able to sign a shoe deal with Nike right now. Or at least do local ads for a Ford dealership or something.
I do think the larger debate is important: people should profit off of their own labor. If an engineering student patents something, he can make money off of it and not be kicked out of school or have his education somehow tainted. A business student can start a business and profit off that without society collapsing. The restraint on a player's earning is ridiculous and frankly, unamerican.
But asking Fournette to be your champion is wrong. It's not up to him to advance your agenda. He's a football player. He's gonna play. He's a person, not a cause.
