I would go welded, especially for a mud boat. Rivets will start leaking the second you run it over something. Not that it's a real problem, more of a pita.

Maybe on older, lightweight aluminum jon boats, but the alumacraft that academy sells are heavy and can take a beating. I used to run one with a 9.8hp merc 110. With one man and little gear, I could barely get up on plane. That being said, I would routinely stand up and fish in it with me, another guy, a dog and gear.

To the OP - you should be able to find a used one on CL for $400 or less if you look around, but you just have to find one with papers.
