Ever seen the hotels and casinos in Vegas?
Yes, they make a LOT of money by getting the same number of people to bet for each team.
When the betting is lopsided they need to do something to get bettors to pick the other team.
They live off the 10% or so that the winner pays and keep all that the loser pays
