Musically, SU isn't even in the same stratosphere as LSU these days.

Haven't really heard SU in a while, but LSU is kind of a shell of its former self to be honest.

SU didn't invent Neck.

Maybe not, but they were playing it before LSU. Everyone and their mother plays it now, which is one reason I do not understand the perpetual LSU love for it.

It has nothing to do with black kids.

Come on. It probably does a little.

We get it. You think SU is the best band in the world. To prove your point you post a link to a video of them blowing their 697 horns as loud as they can. Some parts are almost inaudible.

I'm not saying SU's band is terrible or anything. They're incredibly entertaining. However, if you google band lists Southern doesn't really come up on any of them. It's mostly Ohio St, Texas, USC, A&M, Michigan, Ohio & Jackson St.

I have to disagree, I'm still waiting on that video. Doesn't have to be LSU. Any of those bands I would love to see it. It's something in the marching band community that we talk about all the time. I think because you don't know enough about southern ( or any non-PWC) you believe that. But yeah I agree it is apples to oranges. Just not in the way that you think

This thread is about highlighting the LSU band's experience in Starkville over the weekend.

It has nothing remotely to do with SU, so I'm still not sure why the hell you're even here.

Dude, you really don't know what YOU'RE talking about. (and use some proper grammar by the way)

From a former member of TGBFTL, an LSU School of Music Grad, and a lifelong musician, I know good music and that blowing as hard as you can into a horn, so loud that it's out of tune (badly) is NOT good music.

Here's some great musicianship from TGBFTL and it's not even their best. It's controlled, beautiful, shows real dynamics (do you know what that means?) and it completely blows your video of SU away!

Let Us Break Bread

In any case, just know what you're (not your) talking about before you talk crap about the band. I'm not trying to dis SU's band. I can appreciate the hard work that ANY college band puts in. But I also know quality when I hear it and LSU ranks up there among the best.

In show style bands. Songs like break bread are used as warm up songs. Jackson State actually plays it. So because of the style of playing is different doesn't make it bad. Because you guys don't scream doesn't mean it's bad. Having power is one thing but having control is another. But since we are on the topic of control and dynamics.......here you go Do believe this sounds better

Thank you. I'm a former TGBFTL member as well and always thought Southern's "musicianship" was a joke.

Yes, they can scream, and yes they are flashy, but the sheer amount of out of tune instruments is cringe-worthy.

I'm a former member of the Sonicboom of the South. But I have to ask if you watch the video. Because it kind of makes you point invalid and kind of ignorant, no offense

We fricking get it already. Is there an SU board you can post this shite on? This is a damn thread about LSU's band trip to State. Your link still sounds like shite. Heavy horns and no depth what so ever. LSU has more depth in a simple song like Hey Baby. SU is what you said, a show style band. LSU is not. Muscially LSU if vastly superior. In terms of entertainment and dancing it's SU. Congrats.

This comes up every once in a while...

LSU and SU bands are different styles. You can't really say who's "better".

And yes, I know that LSU's band didn't "invent" Neck. Just let us have our fun.
