No one is saying they didn't have supporters. The thread is about whether our reaction was appropriate. The fact is hundreds of thousands of innocent lives were lost as a result of the war on terror and for what? Did we stop militant Islamic groups? Did anyone have any doubt that we have the most powerful military in the world? I supported the war in Afghanistan at the time but it's clear now that our enemy couldn't be defeated with traditional means. You mean to tell me you honestly think MORE bombing would have been a better solution? Sure, we could have wiped the middle east off the face of the planet and they would no longer be a threat but I hope that you would have the conscience to know that would be a despicable and disproportionate act

I don't disagree.
But, I'd like to point out that you are making the point that there was no proportional act that would have accomplished anything. So, what should we have done?
