What is up with this whole bat flip ordeal? Is it one of those unwritten rule that baseball seems to love so much?

Pitchers always feel showed up when it happens. Not just the bat flip, but how he stood there and pimped it
He'll probably get beaned next year because of it.

The "unwritten rules" of baseball. It's what makes people hate the sport so much.
Baseball is a gentlemen's game :snort: and that kind of tomfoolery just shows up the pitcher. Dey get dissed.
I'd love to find a replay of it on youtube, but in the '04 season, Jim Edmonds cranked one against Carlos Zambrano in Wrigley, and you almost couldn't see it, but Jimmy game Zambrano a quick look before putting his head down and running to 1st. By the time he got to 3rd, Zambrano was spitting fire at him and the cards dugout. Someone got plunked later in the game and benches cleared.
Found it...4:10 mark.
You can't really see what Edmonds did in that video, but I remember WGN did a slo-mo closeup of him after the hit, and the glance was so subtle. Zambrano was a career hot head so it never took much anyways.
