$1 billion is a lot of money to spend on something that doesn't differentiate you from other services, especially when you have user data to suggest it's not the bulk of what your users consume anyway. That's the entire reason they started going away from being a "movie channel" in the first place. People were spending more hours watching TV shows than movies so they shifted their strategies accordingly. What is going to help them more, having 6-10 "marquee" movies a year, or 6-10 new original series? I don't know the cost of the shows, maybe it's only 3-5 originals, but I have a feeling DareDevil was bigger for them and will attract/keep more subscribers than The Wolf of Wall Street.
