I'm going to take a different perspective. My 5 year old LG developed a green line, which gave me an excuse to move it to the porch (I can tolerate a lot more outside). When I went out shopping for a new (60"), I found a LG for around $500-$600 (I think) vs comparable higher end models over $1000.

For essentially half the price, I have as good of a picture (as far as my untrained eye can tell). Let's assume it dies in 5 years, I could buy another for $500. The higher end models may last twice as long, but in 10 years, it's going to be outdated anyways.
