Is $100k really that much for being a leading professional in your field?

They generate a ton of money for their school and contribute heavily to the community. They also directly influence around 100 students and indirectly contribute to the students involved in the band, cheerleading, and trainer staff. Not to mention, the better the program, the more opportunities there are for scholarships.

Like someone else said, I was expecting a lot more salary compensation for me to be shocked.

You could say the same for teachers. They're influencing the minds of lots of kids and altering their trajectories after HS - college, future job, etc.

Only a few kids at a given HS are ever going to play football professionally. A huge number of kids will become doctors, lawyers, etc. The academic scholarship dollars will far exceed the football scholarship dollars at most schools.

I'm not against paying coaches for their contributions, but it seems odd that most teachers make substantially less, no?
