What is your sensitivity setting, Color setting, Pings per second, surface clutter, etc?
You should be at 50% - 75% sensitivity, 75% ping speed, surface clutter - low or medium unless you are fishing 50+ feet deep with a drop shot.
I have an 897hd and had to bring the sensitivity down to resolve the issue you have mentioned. I fish deep, clear highland reservoirs and at the settings mentioned above, I can watch a 4" finesse worm and 3/8 oz. drop shot weight move in 40' of water.
