Half my ductwork is probably 40 years old and the rest is 25-30 years old. Needless to say it's all pretty deteriorated. Also, my plenum is made of what appears to be some material that's not really ridged. It's in a bad spot and gets bumped/leaned on a lot and doesn't really hold up to this well.

I have a good amount of leakage in the attack and want to get it all sealed up.

Anyone have any experience with replacing a plenum and ductwork? I'm sure I can find ductwork locally or online but don't know where to look for a DIY plenum. Any advice is appreciated.

Note: I'll do this work in the fall/winter when the temps drop, not right now!

Prepare to bleed to death from 1000 nicks. I'd hire somebody for the sheet metal work.

You can buy plentum at an AC Supply warehouse. They pretty standard. Ducts are pretty standard too, they come in a bag in variuos lengths.

These folk should have everything you need if you choose duct board. Duct board, mastic, silver tape, etc. Sheet metal supply plenums are pretty easy to find online.
