Bigger Set of Golf Clubs

I realize this topic is brought up frequently, but this one has a smidge of a twist.
I'm a golfer that is fairly knowledgeable about the golf club market, so I was asked to help a family friend buy golf clubs. I'm likely to recommend buying a set off Ebay. The Walmart and Academy sets are trash, and you can get a 3-4 year old set of Pings that are in great shape for about the same price. I may even suggest some 20 year-old BeCu Eye2's, as it were.
Here is where I need the MSB's help. The future owner of the set is a high school kid who is between 5'4" and 5'5". I am 6' and I have stock length and lie, and I wasn't playing golf when I was 5'5". I have no gauge on what is the proper length and lie for that height. In my head, it is between .5" and 1" short and a degree flat.
Also, to answer questions before they arise. He started playing golf about three weeks ago. I don't think he needs to get fitted: 1. He could end up quitting in a month, and spending the time, effort, and money isn't worth it; 2. He couldn't repeat the same swing twice if his life depended on it, so fitting isn't going to help that much.
TL;DR- What do you estimate the length and lie for a beginner set of golf clubs for a male that is 5'5". My best guess is .5" short, 1 degree flat. TIA

What age high school kid? If he's like a 14 year old freshman then just get him standard and let him grow into it. Quite honestly, given his experience with the game, I wouldn't worry too much about it. Choking up on a club effectively does nothing to swingweight etc. He may need a degree or two flat, but it really isn't enough to worry about for a beginner.
To answer the question as you asked, though, those specs seem appropriate.
ETA:
I read your post again. Just get him standard. It sounds as if he may or may not stick with golf. Resale on clubs with specific specs is much harder than standard clubs. If he quits, you may have trouble selling clubs 1/2" short and 1* flat.

I'm 5'9" and play half inch short and 2° flat.

And I'm 5-10 and play everything standard, verified by a fitting
It just goes to show that there isn't really a perfect chart or answer
I'd tell him to choke down a 1/2" and play it by ear from there

Or get fit.
I'm gonna have to one day. Seems so nerdy though.

I'd tell him to get some used irons but much more modern that 20yrs old. Taylormade burners, newer Calloways, ping G 3whatevers. Something that is super forgiving. If he is still growing get normal length, 2 degrees flat and tell him to choke down. That way he can grow into them.
