unless you plan on sitting 2-5 feet from it you won't be able to tell the difference between it or a 1080p screen. If you can find a cheaper 1080p, i'd go with the 1080p.

There is more to consider sometimes. I got a Vizio 4k tv because it wasn't much more expensive than the 1080p, and it had a much better color profile. So while I may not have much 4k content, other aspects of the picture are better than the 1080p model that wasn't much different in price at the time I purchased it.

I personally am not a big 4k believer yet, but I did get one. I'll be elated if we can get live football in actual 1080p.

I think strictly saying "you won't be able to tell the difference" isn't all that correct. Just walking through a Best Buy or any store with big TV display, I can always tell the higher quality TV's from a good distance.
