These threads always go the same way, posters that are fans of teams that don't really have a rivalry or have lost theirs due to realignment say "rivalries don't matter anymore" and posters that are fans of teams that still have big rivals say "of course rivalries matter" and we get nowhere

Yes, rivalries are still important. The game of college football would be LESS important if Michigan/OSU, Alabama/Auburn, USC/UCLA or whatever, didn't play.

I don't get it. I didn't know there was a rivalry vs non rivalry "thing" going on. Are rivalries in danger or something? Seems like we're arguing over what our favorite ice cream is. Is the Iron Bowl important? I mean, I love the shite out of it. I don't care about Oregon vs Oregon State though. But if their fans like it, then by all means, play the shite out of that game.

I think I'm reading too much into this
