The ghost tours typically don't take you to Marie Laveau's gravesite. They walk around the FQ and talk about different stories at various houses in the FQ at night. I guess they are somewhat worth doing for a tourist.

Marie Laveau is buried in St Louis Cemetary #1. I sure as shite do not recommend you go in that area at night. There might be some Cemetary tours but I've actually never done one. SLC#1 is not in a good part of town but it should be...ok in a tour group.

You can't go in by yourself anymore. You have to be with a registered tour guide.

eta: For a sandwich when you're walking around.. You have to go to Central Grocery on Decatur and get a muffaletta and a Barg's Root Beer.. Just because. And go to Cafe du Monde and have coffee and beignets.. Sit a while and take in the atmosphere. Walk down to the French Market and have a seat at Latrobe park. Take your time, don't rush through your visit. Walk around Jackson Square, go up on the levee and walk the Mississippi River. Have a drink at Tujaque's. Enjoy your time with your lady. New Orleans is a very romantic town and the really fun stuff is not on Bourbon Street.

Also saw the post about having to go in with a tour guide.....not sure about that at all or is that only for a night tour?

I ask since last December I took my girlfriend, went in the morning & felt completely safe & there were other small groups of people strolling around. Don't recall of the 8-10 times I've been or taken people there wanted to go at night or in any event at night to any cemetery....
