Have a trip booked in the rice fields of Kaplan. Never hunted rice fields for teal before. What can I expect?

Teal season is usually really great in the rice fields. Big duck season isn't nowhere near what it used to be. Good luck, still too early for them to be down here right now.

The kids are booking trips for me. They looking for easy hunts for me. They just trying to get me back out there again. Only made two bird hunts last year due to the ticker giving me trouble. A 5 min hunt is fine by me, but if that happens, I still like to work birds even after a limit. It's not about killing anymore for me. Kind of been like that the last 4 years or so

I'm hearing that the conditions were In better shape, much earlier this year. That usually gets the teal moving south earlier than we saw last year. There weren't many here for Septembers season

Usually we limit every day for teal season in SWLA rice fields. Last two seasons have been literally non existent. Hopefully this year is better

Rice fields are normally your best bet for teal. It's like crack for them. Have fun and good luck. if you ever head up towards cenla let me know got a blind you can hunt with me. Easy hunt drive right up to it in the boat.

Last year sucked all the way up here. Usually we are covered with teal, pintails and a few spoons. Hopefully this year will be better.

Bullred, how was your regular season in wright last year? Ours was great, but we lost our lease to crawfishing.

4 or 5 years ago we had them like mosquitoes on our land. We had 400 acres of water and would have 20-30 people hunt every day during teal season. Everybody limited out before 7:00. I wish it would be like that again this year

Yep. Limited within literally 30 seconds back when I had started college several times. It was nuts.

You will get there too early, sweat you arse off, get eaten alive by Mosquitos, everyone will be waiting on someone to start shooting, WW3 will commence. 10 minutes later you will be back at the shop cleaning teal

Ducks were good up until about christmas. Specks were slow. After that we literally had only pintail. One and done. Even the spoons left. Luckily my pops owns the 150 acres we hunt. So losing it should never be a pblm. Just need birds. Our specks the last few years have been in the area just very weary. Few years back we would stack em up easy every hunt. Just take em as it comes.
