Will LF7 win the Heisman?
quote:True, but Mark Ingram did a couple of years back, with really a pedestrian season
Melvin Gordon rushed for nearly 2600 yards last year and didn't win it. The Heisman is now a QB award, 13 of the last 15 winners have been QBs.
quote:If Harris and Fournette both advance their games the way we hope, then LSU has a good chance to win out. Like Ingram, the voters would look for a player to give it to, and Fournette will have been the most hyped and recognized player on our team.
Unless there is a QB that is truly special, the Heisman is awarded to the best player on the best team, even if that guy probably isn't the best player in the nation

Colt McCoy and Tim Tebow
Huh. Then I guess the key really is being a top team this year.

I don't see how. Everything was complicated for him last season having to learn a new system and all fresh out of HS. If they don't complicate things for these kids and just let them play football by making the offense simpler they should be alright. Harris should be really good! Let him fire quick passes to what should be wide open receivers and let him take off running when no one is open or on designed runs.
I believe bringing in UGA's WR coach is going to be as big if not bigger than bringing in coach O for the DL. I expect significant WR play and if the OL can play dominant ball and make the blocks to open the holes for the RBs, Harris should have a much better year.

this is the Heisman period, I haven't watched the ceremony in years. It's right behind the Arthur Ashe Award as far as joke awards are concerned

The Heisman is now a dual threat quarter back trophy now.

and some high profile TD returns... It could possibly happen.
This is very important, and also the part about LSU being in the final 4. IF LSU gets into the final 4, and LF has 1500 or more yards, and then has a Heisman moment or two where in a close game against a good opponent, he takes a kickoff to the house...resulting in an LSU win....that's the kind of things that will put him over the top.
So, #1 he must have the stats. #2, LSU must be in playoff contention (win SEC), and #3 he needs a few big plays, ideally on kickoffs, where he changes a close game......if all of those happen...he has a great chance.

If Harris is average we win the title
A little overboard hey there????? They will be real good, But saying they win it all just cause he is average is crazy.... It take a lot of things to fall into place for a team to win a title..... This team is NOT as good as Ohio St.... But hey 10-2 11-1 is possible....

I think it's very possible. If he has his biggest games at the right time, against the best competition . And also, like someone responded before, the huge yardage total is important but not a must.
I think 1,500 yds rushing, and 300 or 400 receiving along with a healthy return game number could win it, as long as we're in the thick of the SEC race.

Because all these people nut sucking mariota, who got exposed vs OSU, and will be average at best in the NFL

We went to the title game in 11 with an average/below average (don't want to get into that and derail the thread) QB. Defense was maybe the best ever. Not sure if this D will live up to that but if they do we should at lease get a shot at the playoffs and I think we will be in the title game. If we have an average QB. Lot of if's here. Lol

He won't win it unless he breaks all of Barry Sanders single season records. People forget that what Barry did that year was insane.
Montee Ball posted 1923 yards rushing 33 TDs, 306 yards receiving 6 TDs, 2/2 57 yards 1 TD, 1 KR 15 yards, and one 2 point conversion. He was 4th behind RG3, Luck, and Richardson. The crazy part is, he wasn't even close to the #3 in Richardson who had way less in every statistical category minus receiving yardage. Melvin Gordon damn near broke Sanders rushing record, missing it by 42 yards and didn't even receive half the votes Mariota did.
Not only would Fournette have to be the best running back by far in the country, he would have to be extremely hyped as a heisman contender (a media darling), He would have to have over 2000 rush yards and over 20 TDs. His team would have to be undefeated. He would need to be versatile. That means receiving TDs, KR, and PR TDs.

Why would we not count Reggie?
That's like saying I wouldve broke 80 had it not been for that quad bogey ??

Because Reggie doesn't have a trophy.

I must have missed OSUs first game...you know the one where they displayed their vast superiority over us.
Just because the pundits say they're better doesn't make it so....you know that as well as I brother.
