The read option with good blocking is a very effective play. Either the RB or QB gets to the second level with one man to beat. All you have to do is look at how effective Ohio State was running the play. Their OL got good push on their assigned blocks, and they were able to punish opposing defenses, even Alabama's, with either the RB or QB. LSU has the OL, RB and QB to run the play very effectively, and it utilizes the skills of the QBs LSU has better than the I-formation.
